New Facebook Page Admin Panel: I Do Not Like It, Sam I Am

UPDATE: Facebook has once again included notifications in the admin panel. It’s kind of annoying to have to do the extra click, but at least it’s there!

Facebook Notifications

——————————————————————————————————–

Yesterday, I logged into Facebook at work – because yes, I get have to do Facebook for my job. To my surprise, my admin panel at the top of my page was not as it should be! I hadn’t even read about a new admin panel on Mashable yet, how could it be happening to me?

Well, it looks like I was in one of the first groups to test this newly redesigned panel, and it confirms my belief that Facebook is doing everything it can to drive marketers AWAY from Facebook.

I took a screenshot from a page I never use (note the pathetic numbers). My real pages are confidential, yo. As you can see, the Notifications box was replaced by a listing of your most recent posts and of course an opportunity to promote your posts if you don’t like the numbers. <Mobster Voice> And you won’t like the numbers, know what I mean? </Mobster Voice>

New Facebook Admin Panel

The very first thing that popped into my head was the “unnamed character” in the yellow furry pajamas who exclaims,

Green eggs and ham

I DO NOT LIKE THEM, SAM I AM!

Dr. Seuss FB Admin

Who knows? The end of this story might mirror the book, when “unnamed character” actually likes Green Eggs and Ham. But now that I’ve gotten used to seeing my most recent notifications so clearly, I doubt I’ll ever be a fan of this new layout.

So now that you know exactly what I think, What say you? Is this change remotely useful to you as a page admin?

  1. I haven’t seen this on my pages yet. For the last week several of my friends and I keep seeing different things, but NONE of us see the same things.

  2. I hate the update as well, I really liked being able to see the photos that were being liked and commented on…oh well. You are lucky your “new likes.” That box on my admin page has been taken up by a giant “promote your page” button for a while now. I have to click to a separate page to see recent likes.

I hate it! I admin a page with my boyfriend and he luckily didn’t have to undergo the change! But I did and I want it off! I wonder if anyone knows if there is anything we could do to fix it! Can’t stand it!

At this point, there’s nothing we can do. You’ll just have to go to the notifications to get the newest activity. Hopefully, FB will change it back when their plan to get more promoted posts backfires. We can only hope.

Wonderful post; thank you! It flipped from notifications to posts for one of my pages about a month ago, went away, and is back again. Yuck. I hate it, hate it, hate it. The remaining notifications button appears to be a drag-and-drop but it doesn’t actually drop anywhere :/ It would be awesome if Fb would send you a message saying “hey – you! we’re testing out a new tweak on your page” and it would be even better if they ever thought to ask “want to give us your feedback about it?” but… that would be crazy and “Being crazy isn’t enough.” ;)

  4. How could this change be useful to any page admin? The KEY thing I care about is my notifications & now I have to clicks twice to see them. Additionally, I’m not getting notifications on my dashboard like I use to.

    Huge fail on Facebook’s part.

    Exactly, I couldn’t agree more.

  5. I totally agree that this is a massive fail, and super frustrating to have to make the extra click to get notifications, and even then, they are poorly presented. Bad move.

    Sarah Pinnix Reply:

Exactly, Jamie. If they were presented well, I might not mind keeping an extra tab open and refreshing to get new notifications.

  6. Hi there, I find this extremely difficult to navigate these days!! I have a constant flow of comments & answers to tend too…..very frustrating! hope it doesn’t stay!!!

  7. Love your post! I guess the reason they started FB is no longer true (from the FB blog: “I founded Facebook on the idea that people want to share and connect with people in their lives….”). How does removing the notifications from the admin panel make it easier to connect with folks who comment on my page? Not a fan of this change at all!

  8. i want to replace my page admin panel with old one how can i do it?

    [Reply]

    Sarah Pinnix Reply:

Unfortunately, there is no way to go back to the old panel right now. I hope Facebook changes their mind on this one.

  9. This update actually makes my job a huge pain in the add. I have to admin 6 Facebook pages and I have no idea what notifications have been read, or when certain events happen now etc. The only money they’re going to convince me to spend is not on a promoted post, but on a 3rd party app so I never need to log into their garbage interface again. Awful update. Completely useless information bump.

Corey, I couldn’t have said it better myself. They should focus on improving the PRODUCT of promoted posts (or “boost”) and then maybe people will use it. Promoted posts are the worst way to advertise on FB.

  10. wtf is new admin panel by Facebook has changed, admins want older notification panel back this is to tricky n it is for Marketers not or us. plz deploy older admin notification panel

  11. It’s a very bad update, that removes functionality and replaces it with unneccesary promotional push. Pushing has often, as we know, opposite effects as expected and this is likely to happen now in that case, because I haven’t met a single page admin as far that he/she likes it. Not a single one!

facebook should roll back the update or at least give the option to opt it out, but I think it won’t. They seem to be on an arrogance trip, trying to push their will at all costs, and they seem to forget that the existence of alternatives.

It will be interesting to see what Facebook does when their revenue DROPS because of this.

  12. Just copy the link location of the bits you want to see (such as Insights), and save them as browser favourites… then hide the admin panel from view and access Insights etc from your browser favourites bar. Problem solved. :)

I hate it! I want to see my new likes and my notifications! I know what I posted I don’t need to see it again on admin panel–I can see it in insights if I really want to. Grrrr…

  14. I don’t even see the “new likes” panel anymore in the lower left, instead in its place is a “promote this page for $10″ box. I used to love to see the most recent new likes, that’s the one thing I did use to check on there just to see where people were coming from. How can I get rid of that stupid ad box?

    [Reply]

    Sarah Pinnix Reply:

That’s gross, Sine! How many ways can they twist your arm to promote posts?! Right now, there’s no way to customize your panel.

  15. Bill Simpson says:

In the “Insights/See all” option, the first tab is a set of graphs. With the “old” admin page, this updated regularly but with “new” admin page, it has stopped updating & is now stalled at May 13. Please is there a way to have it update?

    [Reply]

    Sarah Pinnix Reply:

Bill. Lots of people are having that problem with Insights. The graphs stop at May 15. When this has happened in the past, Facebook will usually fix it within a couple of weeks. Let’s hope they do.
